Not all hydroponic systems are the same. Frequently Asked Questions About Hydroponics

Which plants are suitable for hydroponics?

Most common indoor plants can be grown successfully in hydroponics, including spider plants, pothos, philodendrons, dracaenas, and many more. Plants that require long dry periods, such as cacti or many succulents, are generally less suitable.

Can I convert any plant from soil to hydroponics?

In principle, yes – but the transition requires some patience. Roots must be cleaned completely of soil residues, as leftover soil can quickly rot in a hydroponic system. Young plants with smaller root balls are usually easier to convert than older, heavily rooted specimens.

Do I need special fertilizer for hydroponics?

Yes. Since clay pebbles and rockwool do not provide nutrients themselves, a dedicated hydroponic liquid fertilizer is required. Regular soil fertilizer is not suitable because it is not balanced for water-based root systems.

How often should I change the water?

With the Leni system, simply refilling the reservoir every two to three weeks is usually sufficient. A complete water change is recommended two to three times per year to prevent salt buildup from fertilizers.
