Grow tents

Grow tents: The closed ecosystem for indoor gardens

Grow tents, also known as grow boxes, are easy to set up plant tents for use in closed rooms. With additional components, a self-contained ecosystem can be simulated in a grow tent. By using a grow tent, you can cultivate herbs, vegetables and plants under ideal conditions all year round, regardless of climatic conditions. Grow tents are available in various sizes (from 0.2m² to over 10m²) and are generally suitable for cultivating all plants.

Why a grow tent?

Grow tents are used to grow plants when it is not possible to do so outdoors. This may be due to the place of residence, which is in the centre of the city, for example, or because the plants to be grown would not survive in our climate. One of the great advantages of grow tents is that you have the entire climate, including light, in your hands and can control it precisely. This means that extremely good yields can often be achieved in grow tents, as the plants can grow under optimum conditions from start to finish. Many indoor gardeners continue to optimise their grow cabinets, always looking for better results. But even beginners can achieve remarkable results with a home grow set. Depending on how much space you have available, there is a suitable grow tent model. From small tents that can be stored in a cupboard or elsewhere to save space, to extremely large models that require their own room.

Important quality features of a grow tent

The grow tents are produced by experienced manufacturers with many years of experience. This is noticeable in the sensible design of the grow boxes as well as in the coating on the inside, for example. This has been continuously developed over time in order to better reflect the light inside the grow cabinet and thus achieve a higher yield. The inlets and outlets for power cables, supply air and exhaust air are sensibly positioned to ensure a comfortable process when growing your plants. In addition, many boxes of the latest generation (e.g. the HOMEbox Ambient series) have a double base, which guarantees that no water can leak out of the tent. In addition, an Ambient grow tent has a load capacity of up to 150kg (model R240) - enough for even the heaviest LED lamps and activated charcoal filters.

The right material thickness and degree of reflection

The main quality features of a grow tent are the material thickness and the reflectivity of the inner coating. Mylar film, which reflects up to approx. 98% of the light, is generally used for the inner coating. This ensures that the plants receive enough light for healthy growth with appropriate lighting.

Access points and viewing windows make your work easier:

A good grow tent should be equipped with easily accessible access points in the form of numerous inlets and outlets. Viewing windows made of transparent film make it easier to see the plants inside the grow box. You can easily observe the plants from different angles without having to disturb the ecosystem. The more air outlets, inlets and cable openings a grow box has, the more individually and efficiently you can install additional components such as climate, irrigation and measuring systems.

Full control for indoor cultivation with a grow tent

When growing plants in a grow tent, the gardener is responsible for regulating and controlling all environmental factors. On the one hand, this is a great advantage compared to growing plants outdoors, but on the other hand it requires that you have familiarised yourself sufficiently with all the factors in order to be able to exploit the full potential of a grow box.

In a grow tent, every environmental factor can and must be controlled very precisely. Depending on what requirements the plant to be cultivated has for its location, it can be a real challenge. In contrast to outdoor cultivation, however, all conceivable factors can be consistently and constantly optimised to meet the requirements of a plant culture.

The supply of light, nutrients and water can be customised to the plants' absorption capacity. As a result, high yields in terms of quality and quantity are possible under "laboratory conditions", which could not be realised in this way in the wild.

Important accessories for your grow tent

A grow tent alone is not enough for successful indoor horticulture. You also need lighting and a ventilation system. Your plants can be placed in various pots and benefit from a circulating air fan. This is already a good indoor grow set. If you want to improve your grow set even further, you can think about a climate controller or additional CO2 supply.

Six buying tips for choosing the right grow tent

In order to be able to make a purchase decision for a specific grow tent model, the following questions should be clarified in advance.

Buying tip 1: The right size

The choice of grow tent size depends on the type of plant you want to grow indoors and how many plants you are cultivating at once. When choosing the size, please also consider how much space you have available. If in doubt, you should leave some space at the top in case you need to grow one or two more plants in the future. Our grow boxes are available in many sizes to suit your needs. If you are unsure which size you need for your indoor cultivation, talk to us. We will be happy to advise you. How many plants would you like to grow?

Buying tip 2: The material strength of the grow tent

There are grow boxes made of thicker and thinner material. Choose a grow tent with a thicker material if you want a really light-tight solution. This ensures that the light does not shine through to the outside or even illuminate the room. A grow tent with a thicker material is also more durable and will give you more enjoyment for longer.

Buying tip 3: The reflectivity of the inner coating

A high-quality internal coating, such as in the Cultivalley growboxes, distributes the reflected light better and thus ensures that the plants are optimally supplied with light by the growbox lighting. This allows herbs, vegetables and plants to thrive under optimum lighting conditions.

Buying tip 4: The number of features of the grow tent

The more features a grow tent has, the more flexible you are in terms of setting up and expanding your grow equipment. Plan as large as possible so that you can operate your indoor plant cultivation comfortably and scalably.

Buying tip 5: Full view with plenty of viewing windows

Due to the insulating properties of grow boxes, plants inside have to do without natural nutrients, which makes them susceptible to pest infestation. You should therefore check your crops regularly to detect an infestation at an early stage and start thorough control immediately. When choosing the right grow tent for you, you should therefore make sure that you have a good view of the plants inside through various viewing windows.

Buying tip 6: PVC or PE in food quality – a question of content

When cultivating edible herbs, vegetables and plants, make sure that the grow tent is made of food-grade PE. The cheaper PVC alternatives, which usually contain chemical plasticisers, should not be the first choice. Cultivalley grow boxes are generally made of PE and ensure an optimal and food-safe grow.

We also offer complete grow tent sets, which contain grow boxes and equipment for various areas of use in an optimal combination.
